What Is a Normal Period?

  • Bleeding lasts 3 to 7 days

  • Menstrual cycle length is typically 28–30 days

  • A cycle between 21 and 35 days is still considered normal

  • Cycle is measured from the first day of one period to the day before the next

  • Mild discomfort or cramps are common

What Is an Abnormal Period?

  • Bleeding lasts more than 7 days

  • Heavy bleeding or overflow (e.g. soaking through pads/tampons quickly)

  • Severe menstrual pain that affects daily activities

  • Cycle shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days

  • Bleeding between periods
